A drunk man who was involved in a street brawl with his friend outside Supermac’s, Ballina, was before Ballina District Court on Tuesday for being threatening and abusive.
David Christie, 20 McDermott Street, Ballina, was observed by gardaí to be in a fight with another male outside the takeaway on Pearse Street, on May 27 2011 at 12.15am. Gardaí separated the men. Christie, who was aggressive, also failed to leave the area when directed.
The 34-year-old father of two has previous convictions.
Judge Mary Devins said to the defendant’s solicitor, “that instead of being a waste of space that he might do something suitable” and the judge adjourned the case to July 26 for a community service assessment report, where if found suitable, the defendant would be sentenced to 120 hours in lieu of three months in prison.
