Councillor Harry Barrett, has called on people to use a dedicated hotline to report dumping and fly tipping around Castlebar as “the problem is escalating”.
“I am inundated with calls in relation to fly tipping and dumping in estates around Castlebar,” Cllr Barrett said. “This is an appalling situation that leads to vermin and a risk to people’s health.”
A 24-hour CallSave telephone number — 1850 365121 — has been set up by the Environmental Protection Agency. This information is followed up and checked by the enforcement authorities.
“Hopefully the Dump the Dumpers phone line will prove to be a valuable mechanism for members of the public to report illegal waste activities. It makes it as easy as possible for the public to take control of dumping problems around Castlebar and hopefully the phone line will encourage them to do so,” Cllr Barrett concluded.
