Housing grants approved up to end of April now eligible to be drawn down

Anyone who has got approval for one of the three housing grant schemes provided by Mayo County Council up to the end of April this year will be able to draw down the funding now, the members of the Claremorris Electoral Area committee were told this week.

The council provides three different grants to the public, the mobility aids housing grant, the housing adaptation grant for people with a disability, and the scheme for housing aid for older people.

“We have €1 million in funding for grants that was approved over a year ago that were not drawn down by people,” senior executive officer for Mayo County Council Padraig Flanagan told the June meeting of the committee. “Now that money will be re-allocated to this year’s applications, this will now allow us to be able to approve and give out grants to all grants that were given the go ahead up to the end of April this year.”

The news was welcomed by the members of the committee with Cllr Tom Connolly saying: “This is good news to see that money is being reallocated if other people aren’t going to use it so that no one else is held up.”
