A Ballyhaunis man who had his sentencing adjourned in order for him to pay compensation and to enter treatment for addiction problems was remanded in custody in Ballyhaunis District Court this week.
Ian Squire of 12 Manor Brook, Knock Road, Ballyhaunis, who had pleaded guilty to causing €1,100 worth of criminal damage, had his sentencing previously adjourned so he could come up with the compensation and provide documentary proof that he had entered a treatment programme. However Squire had only €500 in compensation in court and an appointment to see a specialist next week, having had his sentencing adjourned a number of months previously.
Judge Mary Devins told the court that, “I’m not happy with this at all, he is milking the system a bit.” She remanded him in custody to Ballina District Court next Tuesday June 14 for sentencing and told Squire he needed to have the full compensation in court next week.
