A heartfelt thanks for support and kind wishes

Dear Editor,

A friend has mine has recently gone through a rather taxing period with health problems. I know him quite intimately and so I can vouch for what I state. He dearly wishes to thank the many people who he says were supportive of him in his illness, especially the medical people, also the many who by letter, card, phone or other communication made such a difference to him by way of support. He would not like to embarrass any of them by having their actual names published.

He and I have (curiously enough ) many a heart-to-heart chat about life and illness etc, usually as Gaeilge, and he has a saying, “Ní féidir an dea-chara a bhualadh”.

In times past my friend was quite fluent with a pen and would in fact enjoy writing to them personally if things were normal. But because things are not normal he is truly grateful and appreciative, and is, as I sit beside him, nudging me what to write to you.

He asks me to say that there is literally no person who can realise and savour such kindness until sickness knocks at your own door. Do I make my point? His point?

Thank you Editor for facilitating me. Mar is mise an fear sin. Buíochas ó chroi!

Leon Ó Mórcháin,

Cluain Cearbán,

Mayo.
