This Sunday, May 29, at Mayo Peace Park, Castlebar, there will be an unveiling of a special plaque commemorating three Mayo soldiers by John Rabbette.
The event will commence at 11.30am with a welcome by Chairman Lt Col Noel Byrne at 11.45am.
The family of Private John McDonnell of the US Army from Straide, County Mayo will lay a wreath on behalf of the family and the John Barry Post of the US Legion in Ireland.
Mr Tom Scanlon, Cleveland will also lay a wreath on behalf of the Irish men and women who fought and died with the US Armed Forces.
There will be an unveiling of an appreciation plaque by Gerald M Quinn, president of the Mayo Society of Greater Cleveland.
At 12 noon there will be an introduction of and welcome to Commodore Mark Mellett, DSM, Flag Officer Commanding the Irish Naval Operations Command, who will be invited to lay a wreath in memory of all who served and died at sea.
A musical interlude will be performed by Castlebar Town Brass Band and Piper Pat Conlon.
At 12.30pm An Taoiseach Enda Kenny will arrive and there will be an unveiling of a special plaque marking his visit.
The Annual General Meeting of the Mayo Peace Park, Garden of Remembrance, will take place at 8pm on Wednesday July 6 in the Welcome Inn Hotel, Castlebar.
All motions and nominations for the elections should be forwarded as soon as possible.
Ms Donna Michelle Dempsey has been nominated for the post of secretary for the coming year.
