Resurfacing works on Pound Road cause confusion for councillors

Recent resurfacing works carried out by Castlebar Town Council in the Pound Road and Churchview Villas area caused concern for members of the town council this week.

“I see that resurfacing works have been carried out there,” Independent councillor Frank Durcan told this week’s town council meeting. “On that road there was to be a pedestrian crossing and ramps put in. The surface has been done, why wasn’t the crossing and ramps done with it? I want a commitment that these works will be done in the next few weeks.”

Cllr Michael Kilcoyne added: “We gave the residents there a commitment that it would be done, now we have the surface done and some of it will have to be maybe ripped up again to put the crossing and ramps in.”

Town manager Seamus Granahan said: “I’m not involved in the project per se, but I know we have a programme of works for the year and that is on it. I also can’t see that the laying of the crossing or the ramps on top of the surface will materially contravene the surface of the road.”
