A 68-year-old man who was in possession of heroin and cannabis was before Ballina District Court this week.
On June 15 2010 the residence of Douglas Jay, Ballybrooney, Killala, Ballina was searched by gardaí where they found 22 cannabis plants to the value of €2,200, heroin to the value of €22, herb cannabis to the value of €48, and cannabis resin to the value of €20.
Jay admitted to gardaí that these drugs were for his own use.
On August 27 2010 Jay was searched for drugs on a public road, where €90 worth of heroin was found in his possession. Jay admitted that it was for his own use.
The South African, who has resided in Ireland for the past 10 years, has one previous drug related conviction.
Judge William Hamill remanded him on continuing bail to July 26 for a probation report.
