A 29-year-old man who was threatening and abusive to a garda who attended the scene of a domestic disturbance was before Judge William Hamill at Ballina District Court this week.
On March 6 2011, Garda Rebecca Fearon attended Greenhills Estate following a report of an incident. The mother of John Devers, 22 Greenhills Estate, Ballina had called the gardaí as she was in fear of her drunk son and wanted him escorted out of her house.
Garda Fearon said that Devers left the house when asked, however when outside on the public footpath the defendant was aggressive towards her when she asked for his details.
Devers has six previous convictions.
Judge Hamill directed that a community service assessment report be completed by July 12 and, if found suitable, that Devers would undertake 100 hours’ community service in lieu of two months in prison.
