Eight men were before Ballina District Court this week for trespassing charges after they were discovered drinking in an underground car park in Ballina.
Following a report to Ballina gardaí on January 18 2011 at 10.15pm, that men were trespassing in an underground car park at the Ridgepool Apartments, Garda Jude Gallagher went to the scene and observed Robert Cawley, 20 Lord Edward Street, Ballina; Jason Humber, 47 Mount Assumpta, Ballina; John Maughan, 12 Mount Assumpta, Ballina; Shane Maughan, 41 Roches Terrace, Ballina; Darren Moran, 11 Tom Clarke Place, Ballina; Kevin Moran, 11 Tom Clarke Place, Ballina; Terry Moyles, 30 Ferran Terrace, Ballina; and Christy Collins, 17 Fenian Row, Ballina.
The men were in the corner of the car park and some were drinking alcohol. All left through an emergency exit door when asked.
Humber and Kevin Moran, who have no previous convictions, were given the Probation Act by Judge William Hamill. Shane Maughan, Moyles and Collins, who have convictions, but not for public order, were convicted and fined €60 each. The remaining defendants, who have previous public order convictions, were convicted and fined €75 each.
