Traffic flow in the town of Ballina will be returned to its original status following a review of the town’s traffic management system.
The decision was made following a review of phase two of the traffic management system. However, according to the town council, it was not possible to fully assess the effectiveness of this phase in the absence of a link road between Market Road and Pearse Street.
This road, which was to be constructed in 2010, is now likely to be in place by 2012. Ballina Town Council proposes to carry out a full trial of phase two of the traffic management system for the town centre on completion of this link road.
In the meantime, it is proposed to restore traffic flows in the town centre to their original status in the coming weeks, in conjunction with road restoration works on Tolan Street and Tone Street.
