Achill Young Fine Gael welcomes jobs initiative

Chairperson of Achill Young Fine Gael, Thomas English, has welcomed the announcement of the government jobs initiative aimed at reducing the massive rate of unemployment in the country.

“It is clear from today’s announcement that this Government is serious about job creation and retention unlike the previous administration,” said Mr English.

Cuts in the VAT rate and PRSI as well as the reversal of the minimum wage cut are all part of the initiative as well as loan guarantee schemes, training and work experience programmes, labour activation measures, school building and improvement projects, and national home insulation projects.

“It is hoped that these will create 2,400 direct and 480 indirect jobs in the construction sector where over 100,000 have become unemployed in recent years,” explained Mr English.

The announcement follows the ‘Finder's Fee’ scheme announced by the Taoiseach last week whereby the ‘finder’ of jobs, if created in Ireland, and if still in existence after two years, would receive a fee or reward of €3,000 per job.
