The post office in Ballintubber will close from end of business today (Friday May 13 ).
A notice from An Post has been placed on the post office door with details of the closure. From now on DSFA welfare payments which were collected from Ballintubber Post Office will be transferred to Partry Post Office.
Chairperson of Ballintubber Community Council, Thomas Berry, said that the moving of welfare payments to Partry is an inconvenience for local residents, especially elderly people who may not be that mobile or have the transport to get to Partry Post Office.
Mr Berry said that a local campaign needs to be instigated in order to ensure the continuation of local postal services in Ballintubber.
