Claremorris hosts largest ever Gaelic4Girls programme
Claremorris Gaelic4Girls has the proud distinction of being the largest ever Gaelic4Girls programme to be held nationwide. The Gaelic4Girls programme in Claremorris was a tremendous success, with a phenomenal 101 girls taking part over eight weeks. This Ladies Gaelic Football Association programme was held in association with Claremorris LGFC with the support of Mayo Sports Partnership. The programme targeted girls between the ages of nine and 13 who are not part of a ladies’ football club and introduces them to the sport in a fun environment. The girls were taught the basic skills of ladies’ Gaelic football on a fun basis by coaches and then demonstrated their new skills through a series of mini games.
The girls will head off to Cavan on May 28 to partake in a major regional Gaelic4Girls blitz. The blitz will see 19 different areas from nine different counties represented. Castlebar Town FC academy
Castlebar Town FC u10 academy for boys and girls aged six to 10 years old kicks off on Monday at 6.30pm at the pitch in Moneen. New members are welcome, the fee for the season is only €25, more information from 087 6547902.
Karate seminar in Claremorris
St Louis Community School Kiltimagh in conjunction with Japan Karate Shotorenmei (JKS Mayo ) will present its first karate seminar on Saturday May 21 and Sunday May 22 in St Louis Community School. The first day’s training will be for students attending St Louis. The following day will be for JKS members and open to all other karate clubs. JKS Ireland is a dynamic, progressive, informative, and transparent organisation. It prides itself on bringing top instructors from around the world to its members.
The event will be run as a promotion for JKS Mayo. Sensei Alan Campbell will be teaching for the two day event assisted by Alan Biesty from JKS Mayo and Kiltimagh Karate Club. For further details contact Alan Biesty on 087 8141342.
Spring run on the Moy
The true spring run has arrived on the River Moy, with angling greatly improved over the past week. The upper beats fished particularly well, with Rinanney, Cloongee, and the East Mayo Anglers water producing good numbers of fish, many in double figures. The Moy system produced an excellent 107 salmon for the week.
On the Moy Fishery, the Ridge Pool has begun to produce greater numbers, with five salmon caught. Ballina Salmon Anglers’ water produced several fish, with the Knockmore water and Byrne’s also yielding a few. Armstrong’s, Gannon’s, and the Foxford Fishery also produced their share, where Emmett Ryan, Co Offaly, landed one of 13lbs at Armstrong’s. Rinanney fished very well for the week, producing large numbers of salmon, and at the Foxford Salmon Anglers’ water, nine were caught. Cloongee produced 21 salmon for the week, caught by the fly, spinner, and worm. East Mayo Anglers’ Association water again proved the most productive beat for the week, with a total of 23 salmon caught, five of which were released.
