Charity soccer blitz in Breaffy

Stephen Walsh, a teacher in Breaffy NS, is currently organising a charity soccer blitz weekend for primary school teachers and special needs assistants next weekend. The event is to raise funds for Down Syndrome Ireland and he is looking for sponsorship from local business which will go 100 per cent to Down Syndrome Ireland. Bohola indoor soccer and basketball finals

The annual finals of the indoor games were held in The Sheridan Memorial Community Centre, Bohola, recently. This year was yet again a wonderful success and there was great excitement among the children as they waiting to play their finals. There was a big turnout of parents and friends to support the children as they played their games. The committee thanks everyone involved for making it a successful occasion. A special word of thanks to the referees for their commitment and dedication during the year, to the parents who helped run the centre during the year, and especially to the children for taking part.

Tag blitz

Castlebar Rugby Club is holding a one day tag blitz on Saturday May 21 starting at 12.30pm. All abilities are very welcome from complete beginners to very experienced players, teams will be picked at random on the day and the tournament will be run off as a round robin style tournament. There will be a barbecue in the clubhouse afterwards showing the Heineken Cup final between Leinster and Northampton, a great day's and night's craic is assured. The cost per person for the day is €5. This is the perfect opportunity to warm up for the summer tournament which will be starting in June. First salmon caught at the Ridge Pool

Continued dry weather and low water levels assisted angling efforts on the River Moy, with 42 salmon reported for the week. The first salmon of the season was caught on the Ridge Pool on April 28, a 4.2lbs fish taken on the worm by Foxford angler John Binns. Two further salmon were caught on the Ridge following this, a 9lbs fly caught fish taken by Alan Curry, which was released. The other, a 9.2lbs salmon was taken by Martin Keily, on a spinner at the Ridge Pool.
