Club competitions back in force in Mayo

Balla

In the men’s competition sponsored by Bar One, Castlebar, last weekend, Bob Leggett was the winner with a score of 42pts, he finished seven points in front of John Parsons and eight points in front of third place finisher Jackie Heneghan. In the ladies’ section Rose O’Connor was the winner with a score of 42pts, Imelda Flatley came second on 39pts, with third placed Aine McDonald two points further back. The category prize was taken by John O’Connor with Marissa Brett the junior competition winner. This weekend’s competition is sponsored by Noel McElilin, Manulla, and a committee meeting will take place in the clubhouse on Monday May 9 at 8pm.

Ballinrobe

In the ladies’ members prize competition, Helen Healy was the winner with a score of 40pts, Joanne Comer in second place was right on her tail one point behind, with Anne O’Reilly back in third place on 36pts. The first nine prize was won by Rose Dooley with 19pts and Phyllis Lee took the back nine win also with 19pts. In the gents’ competition Noel Galvin was the winner with a score of 42pts, Brendan Donovan was three points behind in second, with Brian Fallon taking third spot with 38pts. Tom Lee was the front nine winner in a score of 21pts and Martin Duffy picked up the back nine prize with the same score. The gross event was won by Ray D’Arcy.

Ballina

In the hookers and slicers PJ Corrigan was the winner with 24pts. In the Tom O’Connor sponsored Stableford competition Padraic Naughton won with 43pts, finishing just ahead of Junior Lagdon in second with Jonathan Doherty coming home in third place with 41pts.

Ballyhaunis

Marian Coyne was the winner of the ladies’ section of the Eddie Murphy Menswear sponsored competition in Ballyhaunis. She finished just in front of Ann Cunnane in second place. In the gents’ competition Mark Curley was the winner with 42pts, Aidan Fitzmaurice came second on 39pts, with Gavin Potgieter third on 38pts.

Claremorris

In the Jack Dylan sponsored day, Peter Coen was the gents’ winners with 41pts, the Cat 1 prize went to Eddie Killeen, with Philip White the Cat 2 winner and Padraig Mannion taking the Cat 3 win. In the ladies’ section Kung Fanning was the winner with a score of 38pts.

Mulranny

Brendan Patten was the winner of the Rocky's Bar, Castlebar, sponsored Stableford competition with 40pts. He pipped Tom Duffy on the back nine who also had 40pts. In third place was Richard Keane with 38pts. Next Saturday's competition is the Seamie Daly memorial open for ladies and gents. A time sheet is in operation. On Sunday the men’s Stableford is sponsored by Rings and Things, Castlebar. The draw for the Autumn Cup club match play singles is on the notice-board.

Swinford

In the Lambe Cup sponsored by Eoghan O’Connell’s pharmacy Rob Lambe was the winner with a score of 72, he finished just ahead of Alan Gurren in second place on 73, with David Ronayne third and Gerry Roynane winning the gross prize. Aidan McLoughlin took the handicap prize with a score of 75. In the club classic competition the team of Kevin Quinn, Lorcan Cribben, Julie Loftus and Bernie Walsh were winners with a combined score of 83. Second place went to Sean McLoughlin, Nigel Reape, Martin Hopkins and Maureen Molloy.
