Western Edge – Castlebar CC Team for An Post Rás 2011

Western Edge Medical Communications (WEMC ) Ltd has announced its sponsorship of Castlebar Cycling Club’s entry to the An Post Rás for the third year in succession. Castlebar CC will again achieve a truly impressive goal as they represent Mayo with a team of five riders from this single club. WEMC is proud to be associated with this level of achievement and wishes Chris Coyle (team captain ), Dave Brennan, Bernard Twoomey, and brothers Patrick and Ciaran Clarke, the luck and success that their massive dedication to the sport deserves.

Dunboyne marks the start of the first stage on May 22 and the eight stages will cover a total 1,247km. The route takes in some of Ireland’s most spectacular scenery as it heads west for Galway, Clare, Kerry and Cork before returning to its traditional Skerries finale via beautiful but extremely demanding stages through Waterford and Kildare. In testament to the international stature of this race, the An Post Rás has again attracted professional teams from around the world, including KTM-Murcia from Spain, Drapac Professional from Australia, and Wonderful Pistachios from the USA. The presence of the New Zealand national team will add additional spice to the competitive mix. The WEMC Castlebar team have prepared magnificently and are ready to go head-to-head with this illustrious company. Club secretary John Brennan will be supplying logistical and moral support to the team as he negotiates the complex process of getting a team around the eight stages of the An Post Rás. “The riders leave their sweat and tears, and often blood, on the road" he said, adding, “we have a proud and dedicated support team who have to put their lives on hold for eight days to see the boys round.”
