Labour councillor Harry Barrett has called for an immediate start to be made on a missing section of public pathway on the Turlough Road, Castlebar.
Cllr Barrett has expressed a view that this road will soon be responsible for an accident similar to the road collision in Mulranny last week between a motorist and two young children.
“I have called on the town council to prioritise this path adjacent to Castle Grove East, Castlebar, for the last two years and now I am informed that monies have been allocated to deal with it,” he said. “I am now calling on management not to delay and to act immediately to avoid a repetition of the unfortunate road collision that involved two young children and a motorist in Mulranny last week. I certainly want it in before the end of the year. The lack of a public footpath was certainly a major factor in that accident and I do not want the same situation playing out in my area.”
Cllr Barrett raised the issue at recent town council meetings and has been informed that €18,000 will be allocated to this stretch of roadway.
