Four hundred and seventy five births were registered from July to September 2010; an increase of 37 births from the same period for 2009.
These third quarter statistics, which were released this week by the CSO, revealed that out of these 475 births, 246 babies born were male and 229 were female. Three hundred and thirty two of these births were registered to married parents.
The highest age category for those who gave birth from July to September 2010, was in the 30 to 34 age category, where 171 births were registered. This was followed by the 35 to 39 age category where there were 121 births; 109 births from mothers in the 25 to 29 year-old category; 40 births to 20 to 24 year-olds; 23 babies born to those over 40; and 11 births to those under 20.
Deaths in Mayo for the same statistical period was a total of 254—127 males and 127 females.
