Buy My Dress, Ireland’s largest one day charity dress sale, is coming to Castlebar for the first time on Saturday May 28. Supported by Kellogg’s Special K, this fashion forward campaign has Irish women all over the country throwing open their closets and donating dresses to Down Syndrome Centre. This local event, which is one of eight happening around the country, will be held in TF Royal Hotel and Theatre, Old Westport Road from 10am to 6pm.
Down Syndrome Centre aims to collect 1,000 dresses to sell at each of its events, in a bid to sell 8,000 dresses in one day. All money raised through Buy My Dress goes to fund specialist nursing support for new parents of children born with Down syndrome.
The charity is calling on all local women to help it reach its target by choosing one dress (or more ) and donating it to Buy My Dress. Whether too big, too small, or an impulse purchase gone wrong, it wants that dress that you once wore to your friend’s wedding, nephew’s Communion, sister’s birthday, etc, and is now at the back of the wardrobe, in pristine condition.
From the first week in May, dresses can be dropped into the following locations: Unislim classes in Castlebar, Killala, Ballina, Crossmolina, Bangor Erris, Cornboy and Belmullet – see www.unislim.com for class time and venues; TF Royal Hotel and Theatre, Castlebar; Westport Credit Union, Lower Bridge Street, Westport; Castlebar Credit Union, Market Square, Castlebar; Padraic Ward Chemist, Pearse Street, Ballina; Quinn’s Chemist, Bridge Street, Crossmolina; and Treacy Pharmacy, Ballinrobe.
Buy My Dress is also looking for fashion lovers to help out in the run up to, and on the day of the event, and businesses to host in-house dress collections, so if you would like to volunteer your services, contact your local Buy My Dress co-ordinator, Jenny Barton Brennan on 087 797 9511 or email jenny@virtual officeworx.ie
