€1.3 million for Mayo group water schemes

Minister for Community, Rural, and Gaeltacht Affairs Éamon Ó Cuív has announced that he has allocated CLÁR top-up funding of €1,381,995 to group water schemes in the county.

Mayo Abbey Group Water Scheme will receive €1,140,343 in funding, while the Cushin/Ayle Group Water Scheme will receive €241,652, allowing a total of €3,522,785 of works to be carried out, with the remaining amount to be paid by the Department of the Environment, Heritage and Local Government and by private contribution from the group members.

A total of 272 households will benefit from the schemes with savings of over €5,000 per household. This brings to 1,362 the number of domestic connections, which have been approved funding from CLÁR in County Mayo from 2002 to date under this scheme.

Fianna Fáil County Councillor Al McDonnell said that he was delighted by the announcement, which he said was “proof that Minister O’Cuív has the interests of rural Ireland at heart” and is news which is “greatly welcomed”.
