Mayo Library launches new audio download service

Mayo County Library is the first in Connacht and one of the first in the country to launch its new audio download service that allows members to download audio books directly to their PC, mobile phone, MP3 player or other portable device. From today the library provides access to over 600 bestselling unabridged audiobooks for every library member. The service is available in any library or indeed from a PC anywhere.

Launching the service, Michael Burke, Cathaoirleach of Mayo County Council, congratulated the library staff on bringing this exciting new service to their customers.

A simple ‘one click’ download process transfers audiobooks from the library website to a portable media player. Each title offers unlimited availability and simultaneous access for all borrowers, so every library user can download all the latest bestsellers at the same time, making waiting lists a thing of the past. The service is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. And because you are not physically borrowing a book, there is nothing to return. So you will never have to pay fines again with this service.

The titles available vary from the best selling The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo to Sophie Kinsella’s Twenties Girl as well as a range of titles for children and a selection of self-help books on topics as varied as helping your child to read and quitting smoking. The service will also be useful for children with literacy difficulties as they can listen to a book while reading a physical copy. It will also be a blessing for people with visual impairments, allowing them to listen to best-selling books which were not available to them until now.

The initiative was funded by Mayo County Council under the National Disability Strategy.

Just download and go. To use the service simply log onto www.mayolibrary.ie
