Shell to Sea campaigner spoke at Dalai Lama conference

A prominent Shell to Sea campaigner was one of the speakers at an event in the Citywest Hotel, Dublin, last Wednesday which was attended by the Tibetan leader the Dalai Lama.

John Monaghan, a member of the Rossport community group Pobal Chill Chomáin, was invited to speak at the sold-out Possibilities 2011 civic summit which was organised by Afri, Children in Crossfire, and the SpunOut.ie youth organisation.

The aim of the conference was to inspire people, young and old, to become vocal and active in transforming Ireland and the planet for the better.

The Dalai Lama spoke on the subject of ‘Universal Responsibility’ and how taking action for change is something we all have a duty to do.

Some 1,200 tickets for the event sold-out within five days of going on sale on February 1 and organisers worked to ensure social inclusion by allocating the remaining 800 tickets at low or no cost to excluded, youth, community and campaigning groups throughout Ireland.
