Manulla Football Club were one of 25 successful Irish sports clubs chosen to receive a Texaco Sportstars Bursary, which was presented to them at an awards ceremony in Dublin on Wednesday.
Now in its second year, the Texaco Sportstars Bursaries scheme is open to sports clubs of all kind. A record 422 sports clubs submitted applications representing clubs from all of the 32 counties. Some 51 sporting disciplines were represented amongst the applications received.
Commenting, Chevron Country Chairman Enda Riney said, “with entries almost double those of last year, we are overjoyed with the growing popularity of the Texaco Sportstars Bursaries scheme. We are especially delighted that it is being seen by so many as a vital source of revenue that enables clubs to achieve goals that might otherwise be beyond reach – a point especially true in the case of minority sports where memberships and spectator receipts may not always generate the funds needed.”
Manulla Football Club, who have achieved a lot of success due to hard work and a dedicated support group, will use the bursary money to purchase gym equipment.
