A Castlebar man who spat at his aunt in Supermac’s, due to an ongoing family feud, was before Castlebar District Court this week.
On June 21 2010 at 5pm, a complaint was made to gardaí about an incident at Supermac’s Castlebar where Mary Maughan had been verbally assaulted by Owen McDonagh, 56 An Sruthan, Castlebar.
CCTV footage was viewed, which showed Ms Maughan in the restaurant with her grandchildren. McDonagh walked into the restaurant, as his partner was in there, and when he saw Ms Maughan he became angry and shouted at her. The defendant was then observed to spit twice at his aunt.
The court heard that there has been a long standing feud between the two families, however there has been no incident since.
Judge Mary Devins adjourned the matter to May 4 for a community service assessment report. If suitable, McDonagh will complete 100 hours of community service in lieu of three months in prison.
