Further €180,000 secured for Foxford riverside project

Foxford based Fianna Fáil councillor Jimmy Maloney has welcomed the allocation of €178,656 from Mayo North East Leader Company towards the completion of a half a million euro public amenity at Green Road in the town.

Councillor Maloney, who is chairperson of Foxford Development Association, received confirmation of the funding this week for the project that has been proposed and promoted by the local development company in conjunction with Mayo County Council.

Cllr Maloney said: “This is a significant investment for Foxford and a very welcome boost for the town. We (Foxford Development Association ) applied for Leader funding for this project last October and I am delighted that, working in co-operation with the Council, we have been successful in securing grant aid of €179,000. The total cost of works taking into account Mayo County Council involvement and that of the Foxford Development Association will be just under €250,000.”

Cllr Maloney continued: “This funding comes on the back of €300,000 secured from Central Government last year which was used to raise waste ground at Green Road and alleviate flooding in the area.

“We can now proceed to develop this ground into a Riverside Promenade along 300 metres of the banks of the River Moy with landscaping, seating, lighting and parking all included in the plans. This will serve to be a wonderful amenity area for everyone who wants to come and admire our wonderful River Moy.”

Cllr Maloney praised Foxford Development Association, Mayo County Council and the Mayo North East Leader Company for their efforts and co-operative approach to the project.

Works are due to commence in a matter of weeks with completion anticipated as early as the end of the summer.
