A Knockmore man who claimed unemployment assistance while he worked as a lorry driver was before Ballina District Court this week.
David Herbert, Barnfield, Knockmore, Ballina, who had been on the dole, commenced employment in July 2008 as a lorry driver. However, in July, August, September, November 2008 and January 2009 the defendant made a declaration that he was unemployed. A total of €6,991 unemployment assistance was paid into his account during this period.
The court heard that all of this money has been paid back.
For failing to notify the Minister of Social Protection, Herbert was convicted and fined €600 by Judge Mary Devins.
