Man four times over the limit drove up one-way street

A drunk man who, when he was four times over the limit, drove up a one-way street where he hit three cars, was disqualified from driving for three years at Ballina District Court this week.

On September 5 2010 at 5.35pm, gardaí were informed about a hit and run incident on Garden Street, Ballina, where two moving cars and one parked car were hit.

Stephen Davey, Tubbertelly, Tubbercurry, Sligo, the driver of the car, was located by gardaí and arrested on suspicion of drink driving. A blood sample provided showed 318mg of alcohol per 100ml of blood.

The 29-year-old apprentice electrician, who has no previous convictions, had on the day consumed vodka while fishing.

For drink driving Judge Mary Devins convicted and fined him €600 and disqualified him from driving for three years. For dangerous driving he was convicted and fined €400 and disqualified from driving for two years to run concurrently.
