The steering committee for the recently published Mayo GAA Draft Strategic Action Plan will be in attendance at the next meeting of the Mayo County Board. Chairperson of the committee, Liam Horan attended a meeting of the executive of the county board last Monday night to discuss the plan with the executive officers of the county board in what.
Speaking to the Mayo Advertiser this week, Mr Horan said that the meeting on Monday night went well. “I feel that that meeting went very well on Monday night, I got to go in and sit down with the executive and go over the plan with them. What came out of it is that the steering committee who drew up the plan will all be invited to attended the next meeting of the county board where we will be able to answer any questions that the clubs or the executive may have. We always aimed to have the committee at a meeting of the county board to hand it over to the clubs and the executive and let them take it from there, either adopting it or making any amendments they may want to it.”
While there are a number of concerns that the clubs and the county board have with the plan, Mr Horan feels they will be able to iron them out. “There have been some concerns expressed by the executive and the clubs, the main thing with the clubs has been would there be an extra burden on the clubs to fund any of the proposals. The idea of the plan is to reduce the burden on the clubs in the long run. It may take a number of months to happen but that is the idea.
While there have been concerns raised by the executive about items such as the commercial manager, but as part of the plan we expect the work that this manager carries out would fund itself and bring in extra revenue to Mayo GAA. It is also a key appointment to tap into the Mayo Diaspora abroad which we see as a lucrative fund-raising market to tap into.”
