Workshops for Rural Social Scheme participants

The HSE’s Health Promotion Services in Mayo and South West Mayo Development Company are holding two one-day seminars in November (on November 6 and 20 ) to further strengthen their partnership in promoting the health and wellbeing of the Rural Social Scheme participants.

The Rural Social Scheme has 191 participants, who work on various social and community enhancement projects throughout the south west Mayo area. Participants are predominantly male and many are approaching retirement age. The scheme is farm-friendly and participants are afforded great flexibility to work their 20 hours per week.

The seminars will take place from 10am to 4pm on the two days in Balla Community Centre. There will be guest speakers and workshops on the following: Teagasc, health and wellbeing, physical health, the national screening programme, men’s health and mental health.
