A very eventful wedding took place at Castlebar Tennis Club on February 19 where two distinguished tennis players came together to tie the knot.
Miss Shakira Jasmine O’Reilly married Mr Bartholomew O’Connor Thornton surrounded by family and friends.
Shakira (Liam Connell ) looking stunning in a beautiful designer dress by Channel was a moving figure as she graced up the aisle at 7.30pm to be greeted by her loving partner Bartie (Des Morris ).
The bride’s parents Cookie (Hilda Dunne ) and proud father (Pat Doc Doherty ) were very excited and delighted that Shakira was to become part of the prestigious O’Connor-Thornton family. Unfortunately his mother, lady Gertrude O’Connor Thornton (Teresa Mannion ), was not one bit happy.
Sisters of the bridal party Felicity (Loretta O’Malley ) and Charmin (Colette McGinty ) were a sight to behold. Escorted by groomsman (Darragh Dunne ), the best man (Seamus King ) nearly got lost driving down from UCD to attend.
The service was delivered by his highness Brother Pius (Adrian Gavin ) and ran very smoothly until someone in the audience (Diarmuid Gavin ) declared undying love to the groom.
Wedding planner Desiree (Alana ) had a very difficult job to make sure the day ran well. One hundred and forty guests who dressed up for the occasion attended this fiasco.
The young waitress gracefully served the food and dancing went on into the early hours of the night thanks to Henry McGlade MC.
The night was topped by a guest appearance of the new Taoiseach Enda Kenny and his wife Fionnuala.
Another very successful fundraiser for Castlebar Tennis Club. The club extends its thanks to all who attended and helped in any small to make the night such an enjoyable event.
