Hundreds of teenagers from the west and north west are taking part in a national talent competition in Ballinrobe on the weekend of March 26 and 27.
No Name Club teenagers and their adult leaders from the counties of Donegal, Galway, Mayo, Roscommon and Sligo will travel to Ballinrobe to take part in the West/North West Supertalent 2011 final at Ballinrobe Community School.
Over 40 No Name Clubs around the country with over 1,000 teenage members have been invited to send forward representatives to participate in the competition with its eastern and southern finals, which were held on the weekend of March 12/13, offering a very high standard of entry. The winners from the west/north west final will move on to compete at the national final in Templemore on May 14.
Club hosts and hostesses will take to the stage and perform in front of teenagers from clubs throughout their region. There are 11 categories within which they can perform. These are Modern Band, Comedy/Novelty Act, Female Singer, Male Singer, Modern Dance, Group of Singers, Irish Trad Band, Solo Musician, Musical Cameo, two minute film. “With its wide ranging categories that include playing instruments, singing, dancing, comedy or creating a film, the No Name Club super talent competition allows teenagers from the west and north west to showcase their talents,” Con Nolan, No Name Club Chief Executive Officer explains.
“The teenagers relish the opportunity to be creative and perform in front of an audience that includes their peers and adults. The competition is designed to allow teenagers have fun while utilising their performing and creative talents, and plays an important role in fostering confidence in these young people as they move into adulthood.”
Hosts and hostesses are teenage male and female members of No Name Clubs and develop their leadership and confidence skills through their involvement with the national youth organisation. They work with adult committee members to run activities and events that bring benefits to the wider community.
