The Castlebar Tidy Towns Committee welcomes the recent report of Irish Business Against Litter (IBAL ) which showed Castlebar achieved eighth place nationally out of the 55 towns surveyed.
There were just two sites out of ten surveyed which were moderately littered. Allied to the actual increase in marks scored in the recent Tidy Towns Competition it can be seen that Castlebar is on the correct path to making the town a clean and litter-free environment. Notwithstanding these results, there is much work to be done to achieve first place in the country. This can only be achieved by a concerted effort by all. The Tidy Towns Committee would like to congratulate the Castlebar Town Council, Mayo County Council and the residents of Castlebar itself for their effort. Particular thanks to all those who have adopted an area and are doing sterling work on a regular basis.
The Tidy Towns committee urgently needs more volunteers to help it in its work and over the next few months will be announcing new projects with an AGM scheduled for January 2009 in order to kick start the campaign for 2009. Our objective, with your support, is to make your town a clean and healthy environment.
