Scoil Naomh Pholl a tSomais, Ballina has won the Mayo county prize for School Game Playing Day 2010 by showing that its pupils had the most fun in the county playing board games. The school is a previous winner and received €200 towards its School Game Playing Day Fund.
Now in its eighth year, School Game Playing Day is the initiative of toys and games company Hasbro, which pledges a selection of six top Hasbro board games free for every school that participates. The day, which takes place on the last day of term in October, involves pupils bringing their favourite board games into school to play during class, along with a donation for a charity or the school.
School Game Playing Day is part of National Game Playing Week (NGPW ), which runs every year in October. For more information log onto www.ngpw.ie
