Road improvements on the N59, Newport to Mulranny road, were welcomed by Westport Electoral Area councillors at their meeting on Monday.
A Part 8 report on the low volume scheme, which will run for 2.85km, with the Greenway to run alongside it for 2km, was published in December, with submissions being accepted until February 19.
Six submissions were made, with one submission made by 19 residents opposing the closing of two roads along the stretch. A junction will instead be provided at the road.
Westport area councillor Peter Flynn proposed the scheme, which is the “first time real investment has been made on the road”. It was seconded by Cllr John O’Malley.
