Driving ban for man who nearly collided with patrol car

A 65-year-old man who nearly collided with a Garda patrol car was given a three-year driving ban in Ballyhaunis District Court this week.

Garda Alan Ryan told the court that he was driving on Knock Street, Ballyhaunis, at 10.55pm on March 26 2010 when another car coming in the opposite direction nearly collided with him. He turned the patrol car and followed the other car which he saw swerving on the road, before he pulled it over. The car was being driven by Michael Hunt, Kilmovee, Ballaghaderreen, whom he arrested and brought to Ballyhaunis Garda Station. Hunt gave a blood sample which returned a reading of 233mg of alcohol per 100ml of blood. Judge Mary Devins, convicted and fined Hunt €500 and disqualified him from driving for three years.
