The members of the Ballina Electoral Area committee are to write to the incoming minister for housing when the incoming government is formed next week.
The members of the committee were discussing the housing budget for the council for the coming year, when they spoke on the issue of the tenant housing purchase scheme which is being modified. The modifications in the scheme would see new entrants into local authority housing not being able to enter into the scheme on the same terms as older entrants. “We should write to the new minister, whoever that is, to say that we want to go back to the old scheme,” Independent councillor Gerry Ginty told the meeting. “It was working perfectly fine and there was no need to change it.”
