Childline asks pubs in Mayo to help raise funds in 2011

Childline volunteer Donal Barrett said ‘Top of the morning to ya’ while helping launch the Childline 2011 Pubs Pledge Appeal. Over the past five years pubs in Mayo have raised a staggering €40,843 for Childline.

The 2011 Childline Pubs Pledge Appeal is asking pubs, bars, and nightclubs all over Mayo to pledge to raise €1,000, or whatever they can, for Childline in 2011. Childline is hoping that enough pubs get on board to raise €10,000 in Mayo alone this year. The charity has put together its first pubs fundraising pack which contains all the hints and tips necessary to hold a successful fundraising event.

ISPCC Childline operates an office in Castlebar supporting children and families locally and nationwide. Childline is Ireland’s only 24/7 listening support service for children and young people, receiving more than 17,000 calls, texts, and emails each week. Childline receives no government funding which means the service relies wholly on the generosity and support of the Irish people.

“Each year we are overwhelmed at the response from the people of Mayo for all of our fundraising appeals,” said Julie Stafford of ISPCC Childline. “Despite all odds we are continuing to see huge support out there for Childline. This year, as an extra support, we are offering participants the chance to meet with their local fundraiser to help them plan and run a successful event for Childline as we rely so much on these funds.”

Pubs, hotels, and nightclubs can register for their free fundraising pack on www.ispcc.ie/fundraising or by calling 1850 504050.

All participants taking part in the 2011 Childline Pubs Pledge will take part in a national fundraising appeal that will make a difference to the lives of children in their local area and nationwide.
