A man who was threatening and abusive in a public place was sentenced to three months in prison at Ballina District Court this week.
On February 21 2011 at 3am, Brendan Moyles, 19 Ferran Terrace, Ballina, who was intoxicated, was observed by gardaí to attempt to throw a number of punches at a male. A crowd of around 20 had gathered around the incident, which took place on Pearse Street, Ballina.
Moyles, who represented himself, pleaded guilty. The defendant, who has previous convictions, told Judge Mary Devins that he was sorry for his behaviour.
Judge Devins convicted and fined him €500 for being threatening and abusive and sentenced him to three months in prison. For being intoxicated in a public place, Moyles was convicted and fined €100.
