Man arrested for drink driving after wife called gardaí

A man who assisted his estranged wife with starting her car and was then arrested for drink driving was disqualified from driving for three years.

Ballina District Court heard that on January 13 2011, gardaí responded to a call at the Commons, Foxford Road, Ballina, at 8.30pm, where John Humber, 31 Tyrawley Terrace, Ballina, was observed to drive erratically and the car which he was driving at speed hit the kerb.

Humber was stopped by gardaí and subsequently provided a breath sample which gave a reading of 98mg of alcohol per 100ml of breath.

The father of six, who is currently separated from his wife, had on that night attempted to help his wife with her car after she could not get it started. His wife then called gardaí as the couple had a row.

The unemployed man was convicted and fined €500, by Judge Mary Devins, and disqualified from driving for three years.
