Cancer the main cause of claims to Irish Life in Mayo

Malignant cancer is the main cause of death and specified illness claims in County Mayo, according to 2010 claims figures from Irish Life.

According to the company the average age of death claims in County Mayo was 58 for men and 60 for women.

The average age of specified illness claims was 53 for men and 47 for women.

Irish Life revealed this week that it paid a total of €984,000 in respect of 17 death claims and €1.1 million in respect of 15 specified illness claims to claimants in the county.

The average payment was €57,886 for death claims and €72,372 for specified illness claims.

Irish Life has paid out more than €1 billion in death, specified illness, and income protection claims to 30,000 families over the past five years. Ninety five per cent of claims made were paid out by the company.
