Fine Gael only party proposing cut in VAT - Mulherin

Fine Gael’s VAT proposals will create jobs by slashing the cost of labour-intensive services, according to Fine Gael election candidate, Cllr Michelle Mulherin.

Cllr Mulherin said that Fine Gael is the only political party proposing to cut VAT, unlike Brian Lenihan who prefers “to talk bunkum instead of creating credible policies”.

“We have set out plans to create up to 100,000 jobs over the next few years,” Cllr Mulherin said. “This includes slashing the lower rate of VAT by at least 1.5 per cent on labour-intensive services in order to stimulate job creation.

“We will cut the cost of job creation in areas like construction, hotels, restaurants, hairdressing and newspapers, by slashing the lower 13.5 per cent VAT rate by 1.5 per cent.

“This will boost tourism by making it more competitive, and divert consumer spending away from import-intensive goods.”
