The Green Party will spend three times more on public transport than roads – more than any other political party, John Carey, Green Party candidate for Mayo told a hustings event on sustainable transport in GMIT during the week.
He said that sustainable transport was at the heart of Green policy, and that public transport must be protected as an essential public service in the way that health or education are regarded. He said that he would be completely opposed to the privatisation of public transport, as suggested by other political parties.
Under the Green Party transport manifesto - 75:25 Transport Vision - Mayo would benefit directly from a faster, more efficient, rail link to Dublin and a real commitment to phases two and three of the Western Rail Corridor.
