A Swinford man was given a €300 fine after he pleaded guilty to the theft of four hubcaps in Claremorris District Court this week.
The court was told that Patrick Maughan of 44 Boilingbrook, Swinford was the passenger in a car that pulled into the Tesco car park in Claremorris at 4.40pm on June 30 2010. The car was being driven by a female, who got out of the car and went into the shop. Maughan then drove the car further on in the car park and removed four hubcaps off a third person’s car and stole them. This was all caught on CCTV in the shopping centre. The court was also told that Maughan was also serving a driving ban when this happened. Gardaí conducted a search of Maughan’s home at a later date but they could not find the hubcaps, but a few days later they were handed into Swinford Garda Station and Maughan pleaded guilty to the charge. For the theft Judge Mary Devins convicted and fined McDonagh €300.
