Castlebar woman assaulted man

A woman who punched a man in his face, ripped off his T-shirt, and pulled his trousers down, was convicted and fined at Castlebar District Court this week for the section two assault.

At a court sitting last year it was outlined that Stacey Gray, 37 Fr Meehan Place, Castlebar, was identified by the injured party, David Brennan, as the person who assaulted him on Friday October 16 2009 at 11.40pm in Castle Street car park.

Mr Brennan told gardaí that as he looked out of his apartment on Humbert Mall he observed a group of two women and a male outside. The male pulled off Mr Brennan’s car wing mirror and ran away. Mr Brennan ran after them, however he was assaulted by Gray, who punched him in the face. When Mr Brennan called the gardaí, Gray ripped off his T-shirt and pulled his trousers down. The group ran away, however Mr Brennan identified the defendant to gardaí an hour after the incident.

At this week’s sitting of Castlebar District Court, it was heard that Gray has engaged with Probation Services and hopes to enrol in a hairdressing course in Carrowbeg College.

Judge Mary Devins convicted and fined Gray €300 and directed that the defendant also pay €200 to the injured party.
