With the Mayo Stages Rally only weeks away, preparations for the March 13 event are in full flow.
The sport received a welcome boost at the weekend with the announcement that a Sligo company is to become title sponsor of the Border Rally Championship, of which the Mayo Stages Rally is the opening round. Sligo Pallets from Ballisodare is a limited company that specialises in supplying as-new pallets to companies all over Ireland – North and South. Owned and run by Andrew Mullen and Elaine Doherty, the husband and wife team have strong connections to Mayo and indeed are members of Mayo and District Motorsport Club. Well known rally competitors, they will be hoping to start their rally season on the Mayo Stages Rally in their Mitsubishi Evo 9. Their son Darragh has also got the bug and has been freelance navigating for the past four years, with notable success.
“As long time competitors we are delighted to be able to come on board as sponsors of the Border Rally Championship for 2011,” explained Andrew. “The Border Rally Championship is the ideal competition for clubman competitors, thanks to its class based structure. Many competitors are involved in, or have close ties to, the haulage and industry sectors, and I believe this is an ideal opportunity to promote our business. Additionally we will be working with the Border Championship organisers to continue to develop this great series, which in recent years has gone from strength to strength. We hope to include additional prizes and provide value for money rallies for the clubman.”
The McWilliam Park Hotel Mayo Stages Rally is the opening round of 2011 Sligo Pallets Border Rally Championship, with events in Monaghan, Cavan, Newry, Sligo and Donegal making up the six round series.
