Castlebar town councillor Harry Barrett has welcomed the completion of the long awaited public path and lighting for the residents of Whitehorse Lane, Castlebar.
Cllr Barrett had a motion passed for the connection of the estate to the town path network and had money allocated to the project in last year's budget.
“Finally the people of Whitehorse Lane estate can walk on proper lit footpath into town,” he said. “I had a motion passed last year that allocated €50,000 to this project and I'm delighted that the project is now complete. The town council staff must be highly commended for such a professional job, under severe weather conditions over the last few months. I am thrilled that young mothers and the elderly, living on the estate, can now access the shops without having to walk on the road. It was highly dangerous and was a promise I made to the residents during the local elections in 2009.”
