Man drove into jeep as he lost control on ice

A man who lost control on a narrow road, due to the treacherous cold weather, and collided with a jeep was disqualified from driving for six months at Belmullet District Court.

On December 1 2010, Kevin Burke, Swinford Road, Foxford at 8.30am lost control while taking a bend at Derreens, Ballina as the road was icy and covered in snow.

The defendant collided into a jeep causing €3,807.19 worth of damage. The defendant fled the scene on foot.

The apprentice mechanic, had no insurance on the vehicle he was driving at the time.

Judge David Anderson reduced the dangerous driving charge to that of careless driving and convicted and fined him €250. For failing to remain at the scene of the accident he was convicted and fined €250 and disqualified from driving for six months.
