A man who passed by a car on the inside of the road, as he was late to take part in a boxing match, was before Ballina District Court on Tuesday.
On June 19 2010 at 10.50am, Jonathan Merrick, who was travelling on the Foxford Road towards Ballina observed a cloud of smoke on his left hand side and swerved his car to the right. James Darcy, 2 Bakers Close, Lusk Village, Lusk, Co Dublin had driven past Mr Merrick on the inside at high speed. Mr Merrick noted the registration and phoned gardaí, while the witness also followed the car. Darcy was also observed to overtake two cars on a continuous white line.
At traffic lights on Kevin Barry Street, Ballina Darcy stuck his middle finger up at Mr Merrick. Gardaí then arrived on the scene.
Darcy (28 ), was on his way to take part in a boxing match and was running late for his bout. The defendant has 11 previous convictions, including a current suspended sentence from Dublin Circuit Court. The defendant was therefore remanded on his own bond back to Dublin Circuit Court on February 11.
