No commitment by FG to ensure farmers’ children can build on family land - Kilcoyne

Independent General Election candidate Michael Kilcoyne has asked: “Why have the most vulnerable in our society been targeted by the Fianna Fáil/Green Government.” Cllr Kilcoyne has also asked if the situation will be any different with “another right wing party, Fine Gael, in control”.

He accused the outgoing Government of having been more concerned with conserving the wildlife of the country and ignoring the needs of the young families in rural Ireland.

He said our countryside had been desolated and our schools closed because young families cannot get planning permission to build a home on their own land. “The countryside is being left for the snipe and the Dublin 4 brigade who have already build their second homes in the most scenic areas of our county.”

Cllr Kilcoyne added that he is extremely disappointed that there is no commitment in the Fine Gael policy to change the law to ensure that the children of farmers can get planning permission to build a house on their own land. He said: “This is fundamental for the survival of rural Ireland and nowhere more so that in Mayo.”
